Overcome or Over-Comer?
May 2013
by: Debbie Rhodes

You might be thinking that by the title of today’s nugget – ‘we covered this yesterday’.  Yes, but that’s the great thing about devotionals and meditating – you can and should do it more than once with the same subject.  It’s like a diamond; it should be turned and looked at from different angles.

However, we are going to look at overcome in a different light today.  Here we go; let’s get to some definitions.

Overcome:
To defeat - the feeling that accompanies an experience of being thwarted in attaining your goals.
Frustration; disappointment, letdown - a feeling of dissatisfaction that results when your expectations are not realized.  (NOTE: A build-up of this can result in depression.)All I can type at this point is ‘good grief!’ – Who hasn’t felt like that at some time in their lives?  Beat down, exhausted and sick-n-tired of being sick-n-tired. The pressures of work, family, relationships, maybe you’ve got special needs children or feel like you don’t fit in or that life is one big disappointment after another.

Maybe all life has handed you is a big bag that was supposed to have lemons in it for you to make lemonade out of; however, when you opened the bag and looked inside - the bag was empty!  How’s that for fairness and the pursuit of happiness?

Do you feel like you are invisible and are overcome by the silence and loneliness of the world around you?  {I have experienced this quite a bit in my life and it’s no family reunion picnic.}

How many of you out there reading this right now can absolutely say, “I’m slap worn out and overcome by life!”
Ready for a change?

Well, you are one attitude change away from a whole new lease on life.  God did not make you in His image for you to be the one overcome by life and all it has to throw at you.  He made you in His image to continuously demonstrate His overcoming power in the earth over all circumstances and situations, and that includes the devil and all his evil works!

Genesis 1:26 AMP
26“God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.”

All right, you are a speaking spirit who was hand-designed by God, in His image, to be an overcomer NOT be overcome by life and the enemy.
This is who you are in Christ:

Overcomer:
Someone who overcomes and establishes ascendancy and control by force or persuasion.
A person who conquers and subjugates; vanquishes.
Someone who prevails over; overpowers; renders incapable or powerless.

Revelation 12:11 KJV
11”And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

Revelation 12:7-12 TMB
12“War broke out in Heaven. Michael and his Angels fought the Dragon. The Dragon and his Angels fought back, but were no match for Michael. They were cleared out of Heaven, not a sign of them left. The great Dragon—ancient Serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, the one who led the whole earth astray—thrown out, and all his Angels thrown out with him, thrown down to earth. Then I heard a strong voice out of Heaven saying, Salvation and power are established! Kingdom of our God, authority of his Messiah!  The Accuser of our brothers and sisters thrown out, who accused them day and night before God.  They defeated him through the blood of the Lamb and the bold word of their witness.”

There you have it; you are an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb.  Jesus shed His blood so that you could walk, talk, and act like a child of God.  The dominion, authority, power and ability to live a life full of victory is already yours.  Satan has been made weak, defeated, exhausted, of no effect, of no impact and certainly of no consequence to you because of your testimony of what the blood of Jesus has done for you!
What does it mean to testify of what the blood has done for you?  Let’s get out the checklist, shall we?

The blood of the lamb has paid for your redemption and given you eternal life and an intimate relationship with God the Father.  Access to the Holy of Holies!

The blood of the lamb has revoked the curse and all its effects from off of your life; spirit, soul and body.

The blood of the lamb has authorized you to use the name of Jesus to heal the sick, raise the dead, speak with new tongues and cast out demons.

The blood of the lamb has given you access to the mind of Christ and the indwelling presence of the Holy Ghost who leads you into all the Truth.

The list goes on and on but this is supposed to be a daily devotional.  With the above list, I hope that you will begin to see yourself on top of your circumstances instead of under them.

The Righteousness-Consciousness
[From the “Currencies of the Kingdom” Study]
by: Debbie Rhodes

The Kingdom of God [KOG] is a way of responding or a system of living.  It is my conviction that it is Jesus’ belief system or how He responded while He was here on the earth.  Notice the emphasis in the scriptures that it is righteousness, peace and joy IN THE HOLY GHOST.  These responses are carried out in us through His presence, under His guidance.

Let’s recap - righteousness is one of the three components of the Kingdom of God.  [The KOG is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost – Rom. 14:17.]  Since the Kingdom of God is a way of responding or an operating system - much like the world uses money or bartering in exchange for goods and services - Righteousness, Peace and Joy are a believer's ‘currencies’ to exchange for all that is needed, wanted, dreamed or desired!

RIGHTEOUSNESS is an ATTITUDE or a CONSCIOUSNESS, rooted and grounded as a part of a BELIEF SYSTEM, that governs, inspires, or frames our DISCIPLINES AND/OR RESPONSES to circumstances/situations that are contrary to God’s Word or Love for us.

The first thing I asked myself was: What Makes up a Righteousness-Consciousness?  What do I have to believe in order to respond like Jesus would when confronted with scenarios that would challenge His right standing / right doing before God?  From the scriptures, I would have to believe the following so that my R-C is the same as Jesus’:

Believe that God loves me, unconditionally and personally.  John 3:16
Believe that every unbreakable promise in His Word is for me.  Prov. 3:3-6
Believe what the Blood of Jesus has paid for – and know what it paid for.  Rev. 12:11
Believe He has forgiven me ONCE and FOR ALL TIME – Past, Present and Future!  Heb. 10:12-14
Believe He does not see my transgressions anymore b/c they have been blotted out; they won’t be mentioned to me.  Ez. 18:22; Is. 44:22; Is. 43:25
Believe He does not remember any of my sins or iniquities.  Heb. 8:12
Believe He has been merciful to my unrighteousness.  Heb. 8:12
Believe I am in right standing / right doing with Him.  Rom. 5:17
Believe I am acquitted from guilt.  Rom. 5:18
Believe He has made me acceptable in word, thought and deed.  Rom. 10:3
Believe I am approved.  2 Cor. 5:21
Believe I have freedom from sin.  2 Peter 3:13
Believe I am righteous as Jesus is.  I John 3:7
Believe the righteousness He’s given me is eternal.  Ps. 111:3; 112:3; 112:9

While reading in Isaiah 54, I saw benefits of being established in Righteousness.  Next question: What are the Benefits of Being Established in Righteousness?  Here’s what the Word has revealed about the benefits:

Far from oppression; from even the thought of oppression or destruction.  Is. 54:14
Won’t fear.  Is. 54:14
Terror will not come near me.  Is. 54:14
Anyone who gathers against me will fall.  Is. 54:15
No weapon formed against me prospers or succeeds.  Is. 54:17
Every tongue that speaks against me in judgment shall be condemned.  Is. 54:17
Peace – internal and external.  Is. 32:17
Quietness and confident trust.  Is. 32:17
Dressed in the robe of righteousness.  Is. 61:10
Completely satisfied.  Mt. 5:6
Kingdom of heaven is mine.  Mt. 5:10
Reign as a king in this life.  Rom. 5:17
Leads me to sanctification.  Rom. 6:19
Spirit is alive because He has imputed His righteousness to me.  Rom. 8:10
Brings me into right relationship with Him.  Rom. 10:6
Makes me pure & holy [consecrated].  I Cor. 1:30
Makes me redeemed, eternally from the penalty from sin.  I Cor. 1:30
Manifests itself in active goodness, kindness and charity.  2 Cor. 9:10
Anointed with exultant joy and gladness.  Heb. 1:9
I am counted as God’s friend.  James 2:23
Have peace, concord, agreement and harmony between individuals, with undisturbedness; a peaceful mind free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts.  James 3:18
Brings my life out of trouble & frees me from distress.  Ps. 143:11
Delivers me from death.  Prov. 10:12; 11:4
Have a sure, permanent & satisfying reward.  Prov. 11:18
The Righteousness-Consciousness is a part of Jesus’ belief system within a believer that governs - outlines or frames their responses to:

1 – God
2 – Self
3 – Others
4 – Satan
5 – Circumstances / Situations that are contrary to God’s Word and love for them
